Lecture: Silk-making Processes at Jim Thompson

This lecture will explain all processes of silk production done at the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company. The lecture includes pre-production processes at the Jim Thompson farm, such as mulberry cultivation and silkworm raising, and all production steps at the Jim Thompson factory.

Lecturers: managers of each department at Jim Thompson farm and Jim Thompson factory, Pak Thong Chai district (Khorat province)

Kids Workshop: The Process of Natural Dyeing and Weaving
Sunday, September 28, 2008, at 9:00 am-5:00 pm

At William Warren Library, Henry B. Thompson Building

This workshop will be held for children, ages 8-15 years. They will take part in each procedure involved in dyeing and weaving in order to learn all about silk production.

Leaders: Surisara Bua-nin and Piyaporn Mongkolsilp, from Roog-arun School.

Design Workshop by Indian group
(part of Bangkok Design Festival 2008)
Friday - Sunday, October 17-19, 2008

This Design Workshop will be organized by Indian textile designers.

Participants: young Thai designers and Thai students in art and design.

Lecture: The growth of Isan textiles; from local to macro economy
Sunday, November 2nd, 2008, at 1:00 am-3:00 pm

At William Warren Library, Henry B. Thompson Building

The lecture will explain the weaving culture of Thailand’s northeastern region, Isan and its role in local society. Isan’s textile production has changed from traditional, small-scale weaving within the community to today’s industrial-scale activity. The lecture will examine how this change has affected local society.

Lecturers: Ajarn Suriya Samuthakpta (expert on Isan culture and textiles) and Dr. Pandit Chanrochanakit (Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Ramkhamhaeng University
